Jasper loves Peter Rabbit stories

It's never too early to start reading, or listening to, great stories. So when Jasper's great-aunt Susan in Florida asked what he would like to receive as a gift, the answer was simple: Books!

Jasper Turns 10

Jasper turned 10 today - days, that is. A visit to the family physician yesterday confirmed that all's well. The doctors and nurses are all saying how big and strong he is for his age - he tipped the scales at just over 4 kilos (almost 9 pounds). As you can tell from this photo, he really is just a gentle giant!

OMG!

It was a busy day of socializing for Jasper today when our friends Rob and Pat came by for a visit along with Rob's children, Amanda and Tyler. Rob, an up and coming photographer, took advantage of this opportunity to build his portfolio of baby pictures and spent much of the visit snapping shots of Jasper. As you can see, our boy definitely knows how to ham it up for the camera, and didn't tire of striking cute poses. He obviously enjoys the spotlight!

Jasper Comes Home

On Friday morning, after Dr. Ed had a final insection of E and J, we got the all-clear to check out of our very fine hospital suite and take the 5 minute car ride home to Marmot Crescent. Everybody was happy to be home again, but our plans to enjoy some fresh air on the balcony were thwarted by the forest fires in British Columbia, which blew heavy smoke over the Rockies into Alberta. Dr. Ed said keep the windows closed! what? The smoke was so thick in Banff that the mountains were completely obscured for the entire day.

Nonetheless, Jasper enjoyed his first day at home...

Jasper Goes AWOL

Just one day old, and Jasper is already breaking the rules (granted, with more than a little encouragement from his parents). It all started on the back deck of the hospital where he was enjoying his first breaths of the fresh mountain air, when the family decided that the little side gate on teh balcony was calling, and went on a little walkabout down to the Bow River just to take in the beautiful day for a few moments and to celebrate Jasper's first day in the world. When we got back we got a lecure from the nurse about how we were supposed to keep Jasper in a plastic box if we wanted to take him in the hallways or down to the lounge, the reasoning being that people could be rushing down the hallways with dangerous equipment and could smash into us. Watch out! Well .... we decided not to mention the walk by the river.

Jasper Leo was born at 3:39 AM this Wednesday, August 18 at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Weighing: 3.65 Kg / 8 pounds, 1 ounce.
